The Director General  Defence Industrial Cooperation of Nigeria (DICON), Maj-Gen  General AE Edet,  delivered a lecture titled “Manufacture of Indigenous Hardware and MIC in Nigeria” to the participants of course  10/2024  Air force war college Makurdi  who came on a tour to the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria 7 March 2024. The lecture and interactive session were held at Magashi Hall at the DICON Ordnance Factory Kakuri.

The lecture enlightened the participants on the challenges to the manufacture of indigenous hardware and the need for a Nigerian military-industrial complex vis a vis contemporary challenges to internal security and external security.

The lecture also highlighted the need for adequate budget in research and development for the growth and prosperity of the country, especially in the area of internal and external security.

During the interactive session participants asked questions about the policies put in place to drive DICON live up to its mandate in meeting the materiel needs of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies and lots more.

In his respond the DG explained the recently passed bill which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR accented to, gave DICON a lot of power and responsibilities in the manufacturing and procurement of military hardware. A participant from one of the allied countries asked how the DICON Act 2023 has impacted the scope of the corporation.

He also added that the Act compels all stakeholders like the Armed Forces and other security agencies to patronise DICON and only go for importation of their needs when DICON does not have the capacity.

The lecture concluded with a vote of thanks by one of the participants Wing Commander ZO Tamunomine.
