On Wednesday 16 August 2023, history was once again made in Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Kaduna, as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa OFR made his maiden visit to DICON Ordnance Factories, Facilities and DICON Headquarters in Kaduna. The CDS who is also the Chairman Board of Directors DICON-SUR Corporatewear Nigeria Limited applauded DICON for its innovation, commitment, and readiness to step up the production of critical national defence materiel.
The occasion of the CDS visit also served to host members of the DICON-SUR team from Turkey, and Qatar, and representatives from relevant Nigerian Ministries, as they held the 4th DICON-SUR Corporatewear Board Meeting at the DICON Headquarters, Kaduna. Other members of the delegation included Major General Gabriel Ochigbano, who is the Chief of Defence Logistics, Vice Chairmen Mr. Oktay Ercan, and Mr. Mohammed Al Marri.
General Musa gave the encomium and extolled the productive potentials of the Corporation to achieve the founding aspiration of self-reliance in defence materiel for the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He assured DICON of his support and also expressed satisfaction with the level of ongoing construction works at the new DICON-SUR Industrial Sewing Factory within the DICON Complex. The sewing factory is scheduled to be commissioned by December 2023, with a capacity to produce over 1.5-2 million pairs of uniform materials annually for members of the Armed Forces and other Security Agencies in Nigeria.
Earlier, the Director General of Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, Major General Aniedi Edet, expressed gratitude to the CDS and other members of DICON-SUR Corporatewear Nigeria Limited for their August visit to DICON. He stated that the visit was a testament to the shared commitment to propel DICON as a beacon of national pride, strengthen Nigeria’s defence capabilities, and move Nigeria into a future of self-reliance and technological prowess. The DG DICON also added that “we are committed to aligning DICON’s endeavors with your aspirations, fostering an environment of ingenuity and collaboration that will undoubtedly enhance the fortunes of our nation’s defence capabilities”.
Highpoint of the event was a tour of the Ordnance Factories, DICON Ammunition Production Lines, Special Equipment Factory, and the ongoing construction of the DICON-SUR Industrial Tailoring Factory. Other activities of the day included the DICON-SUR Board meeting, the traditional signing of visitors’ book, the presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs. The one-day visit was very successful and would serve as lasting motivation for all Management and Staff of DICON.
