DG holds first durbar 14th Jan 2025.
Major General AE Edet, the Director General of Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), held a durbar with staff at the Angola Hall Ordnance Factory Kakuri, where he expressed his delight at the success of 2024 and looked forward to an even more productive 2025.
He acknowledged the challenges with the staff feeding regime and solicited inputs from staff to overcome these challenges. He, however, said that no matter the present challenges, the feeding would continue as it is a welfare scheme.
The Director General also discussed staff salaries, specifically the risk allowance, and although efforts had been made to upgrade it, he asked staff to be patient with the Federal Government as an upgrade is not feasible at this time.
Major General Edet had launched ‘Operation we must produce’ in December 2024, and as a follow-up, he had embarked on maintenance, repairs, renovations, and new installations within the Ordnance Factories and the research and development center. This he said is aimed at making 2025 a productive year for the corporation, with most factories active and the research and development centre commercially viable.
He also informed staff that production of overalls and uniforms for security personnel has been commissioned, with the first batch expected in March 2025.
The Director General is committed to staff training and has shared plans for both local and international training opportunities. He encouraged general managers to organize in-house training, from which nominations can be made for intensive training outside the country.
Major General Edet congratulated staff who were promoted in December and announced that redeployment would be carried out, soliciting their support and cooperation.
He also addressed the issue of contract workers, expressing concern over how some have been kept on contract status for longer than allowed.
The Director General emphasized the importance of staff welfare, encouraging staff not to hide their health challenges and promising that the Corporation would provide necessary assistance within its power and in line with staff entitlements.
