DG DICON VISIT TO NATIONAL BOARD FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION (NBTE) KADUNA ON 09 NOV 20

The DG paid a courtesy call on the Ag Executive – Secretary NBTE Town planner Ekpeyong E Ekpeyong on 09 Nov 20. The DG and his entourage were received by the ES and top management staff of NBTE at their conference hall

After a brief introduction by the Dir. Polytechnic programme Gen Ezugwu was invited to make state the purpose of his visit. He informed his host that the Corporation is ready to deploy its machines and equipment for the industrial development of the nation

He stated that in the 21st century only knowledge-based organizations are relevant hence the need to establish the DICON Institute of technology as a platform for training young intellectuals. He used the occasion to appreciate the efforts of the Ag Executive Secretary and his team in the registration process of the institute. He enumerated the strengths of the proposed Institute to include, availability of a wide range of machines, a well equipped Research centre, availability of CNC machines, robust MOU with NDA and AFIT, and the ongoing upgrade of facilities in the Corporation.

In addition to the above, the corporation has started the construction of the auditorium and library complexes while legislative backing is being pursued with the National Assembly. The DG assured the audience that students will have unfettered access to the facilities of the corporation for learning and research activities. The DG concluded his remarks with a special appeal for the speedy consideration of the returned questionnaires.

The Ag Executive Secretary itemized the expectations of NBTE to include, access to the laboratory/ workshops by students on a 24 hours basis, availability of tabletop equipment/facilities in readiness of the takeoff, this will gradually graduate to factory equipment, employment of at least 4 lecturers for each program one of whom must possess a Masters degree to act the HOD. Each program must have at least 2 classrooms for ND 1 and ND 2. A total of 14 classrooms are expected to be constructed for the proposed 7 × courses/ programmes. Also, hostel accommodation is a critical requirement for accreditation. The ES also canvassed for a self-sustaining institution that will serve the Kaduna state and environs. This opined can be achieved through practical teaching of the school curriculum

The DG summed up the conference by reiterating the readiness of management to meet all the expectations of NBTE. He stated that the DICON has over the years trained polytechnic students in the SIWEs program and assured the hosts of the continuity of the MoU with NDA and AFIT. He welcomed the directive by the ES for constant engagement with the Director programme and pledged to put in place over 70% of the requirements by NBTE by February next year when the next scheduled visit was proposed. The DG was accompanied on the visit by the DHRM and DP&BD.
