The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) was established by an Act of parliament in 1964, to provide defence materiel for members of the Armed Forces and other Security Agencies in the country. The Corporation is currently being repositioned to play its envisaged role effectively and reduce reliance on importation of military hardware through ongoing conceptual collaboration with similar interest groups both local and international companies. This is in line with the Federal Government’s directive on local content and the establishment of the Military Industrial Complex (MIC) with DICON as the hub.
DICON has lived up to its mandate of manufacturing, storage, and disposal of small arms and ammunition for the Armed Forces and also using the excess capacity where necessary to provide support for local industries. Some of the Corporations products include; FN LAR, DICON Pistol, 7.62 x 51mm (NATO), 7.62 x 39mm special, protective garments, Armoured personnel carriers, Tactical Vehicles, Gun Mount, Pyrotechnics, industrial machine parts, Staff of Office, Car star Plates, Flag poles, Ceremonial Swords and other engineering solutions. The Corporation’s R&D Centre is also equipped to analyze solid and liquid materials for their elemental contents. The R&C Center is opened to researchers, for government organizations, Universities, Polytechnics and others.
